Location
Mt Etna is in Catania in Sicily and is over 3000 metres high. It has a base circumference of 150 kilometers. It lies on the convergent plate boundary between the Eurasian plate and the African plate.
Formation
The lava builds up pressure in the magma chamber and goes up through the dikes to the vents. The lava spews out and some cools on the sides of the mountain, forming more crusts as it cools and building up the volcano.
The lava on Mount Etna is pyroclastic and contains broken rocks, pumice and ash and other hot gases.
